CD PROJEKT RED and Blizzard Entertainment: A Collaboration Three Decades in the Making
Author: Radek Grabowski | Global PR Director
It’s 1998. A brisk morning in Warsaw, Poland. A group of passionate video game fans is about to kick off their day at a local trade show, distributing the latest real-time strategy marvel, StarCraft. They proudly wear t-shirts with the game’s logo, accompanied by likenesses of its three factions — Terran, Zerg, and Protoss. This is a very exciting time for them as gamers, as they’re employed by a company that specializes in publishing video games. That company is CD PROJEKT — back then, the official distributor of Blizzard Entertainment in Poland.
It’s 2026. A brisk morning in Irvine, California. A group of passionate video game fans is about to kick off their day with a visit to Blizzard Entertainment’s campus. They are here to bring their game to a new platform. They’ve spent countless hours in the worlds of Diablo, Warcraft, and StarCraft. This is a very exciting time for them as gamers, as they’re employed by a company that specializes in story-driven role-playing games. That company is CD PROJEKT RED — creators of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, now coming to Battle.net.
There is something beautifully circular about these two moments. Our video game studio grew from the same CD PROJEKT that was distributing video games in the 90s, meaning this is a continuation of the same story. Back then, the connection was about bringing Blizzard’s games to Poland. Today, it is about bringing a CD PROJEKT RED game to Blizzard. But the connection between our two companies goes beyond distribution deals and platforms. It can also be found in the people who work there and in the games that inspired them as industry professionals.

Both CD PROJEKT RED and Blizzard create worlds that allow players to immerse themselves in captivating adventures for hundreds of hours. Both studios have always had the ambition to raise the bar — for themselves and, in doing so, for the video game industry. Their worlds and characters have inspired not only other game developers, but also musicians, filmmakers, cosplayers, and, of course, countless players.
For me personally, the Diablo series was particularly inspiring and formative. Back in 1996, it introduced me to role-playing games, which I hadn’t had a chance to experience in their original pen-and-paper form. Many CD PROJEKT RED employees have a similar story; Blizzard’s iconic franchises helped shape our gaming tastes and continue to entertain us today.
What I find particularly special is that this inspiration works both ways. Talking to people at Blizzard on that Irvine trip, I discovered plenty of Witcher and Cyberpunk aficionados there too, which is, of course, very humbling. During our tour we stopped by the office library, where my eye immediately caught the official artbook for The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. It was a small detail, quietly sitting on a shelf, but perhaps that is precisely why it stayed with me. Nobody had put it there for our visit. It was simply there.
Both studios have always had the ambition to raise the bar — for themselves and, in doing so, for the video game industry.
To me, details like that say more than grand statements ever could. Games inspire people to make other games. Those games, in turn, inspire someone else. Studios that once were just names on PC big boxes in the 90s become places where friends and colleagues work. And sometimes, decades later, their paths cross again.
Being a long-time fan of Blizzard games, I’m very excited that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — the first game I worked on after joining CD PROJEKT RED almost 12 years ago — is now coming to Battle.net. There was no way I could have imagined any of this when I saw that group of people wearing StarCraft t-shirts back in 1998.
And maybe that is what I love most about the video game industry. You never really know where the games that inspire you will eventually go, and where they will take you. But usually, they take you somewhere marvelous.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered launches on September 29, 2026, hitting Battle.net simultaneously with other platforms. We can’t wait for this new audience of players to embark on the Path with legendary monster slayer Geralt of Rivia and experience the entire epic adventure with a slew of upgrades and enhancements to visuals, performance, gameplay, and more.
Remastered will be joined on Battle.net by The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Songs of the Past in 2027. This upcoming expansion will see Geralt embark on a brand new quest to the realm of Letten, an idyllic land of rural tradition and folklore that hides a dark secret just below the surface.
Bringing these games to Battle.net is just the beginning of our partnership with Blizzard. As one of the lifelong fans that Radek mentioned, I genuinely had to ask if I’d heard correctly when I first learned about us collaborating. It was a surreal moment, discovering I could soon work with the talented teams behind games like World of Warcraft and Diablo.
Bringing these games to Battle.net is just the beginning of our partnership with Blizzard.
It’s therefore incredibly exciting to talk about another piece of this partnership — that a Geralt-themed skin is coming to Diablo IV. We can’t share too much about this yet, but the teams at both CD PROJEKT RED and Blizzard are working hard together to make something special for fans of both franchises. What I can say is that it instantly brought out the fangirl in me. I’ve spent countless hours in both The Witcher 3 and Diablo IV, so the idea of these two worlds coming together is mind blowing to me, while at the same time making total sense.
The special skin will be available when pre-purchase opens for Songs of the Past on Battle.net, for any player who buys the expansion. Those who come later needn’t worry either, as the skin will also be available to anyone who purchases Songs of the Past when it launches fully next year.
In the meantime, we’re hard at work preparing more surprises for fans of CD PROJEKT RED and Blizzard, and it won’t be too long before we can reveal them. Alongside my fellow REDs, I’ll be attending BlizzCon 2026 in Anaheim, California. Here we’ll be diving deeper into our collaboration and showing off more of the Geralt-inspired skin. I can't wait for everyone to see what else this partnership has in store!
